As I write this, I have exercised every single day for more than seven months. Correction: seven months minus two days.
Still, it’s approximately 700% better than my workout frequency several months ago and it is one of the biggest accomplishments of my life.
I had wanted to build a habit of exercising every day for many years. I was always impressed with individuals who exercised daily ever since, as a teenager, I came across the ancient Greek ideal kalos kai agathos — the beautiful and the good — often compared to the latin saying “healthy soul in healthy body”.
I wanted to be both good and beautiful. I wanted a strong mind, a noble soul and a healthy body as I knew that these elements are interdependent and of equal importance. I had subconsciously adopted this as my own ideal and I promised myself to respect and care for my health and body the same way I’d care about other aspects of my life.
As I grew older, however, the number of priorities in my life seemed to have multiplied and, often, the kalos part of the Greek ideal would drop in the ranking of importance. I kept promising myself to build a solid workout routine but…
